Enforcement
The only country where enforcement has visibly happened, and it came from disability associations in the civil courts rather than from a regulator. Carrefour was ordered in June 2026 to remediate within six months under a EUR 500 daily penalty. Auchan escaped in May 2026 because the court applied an older turnover threshold, which leaves real uncertainty about which regime governs.
The EUR 25,000 figure quoted almost universally for a missing French accessibility statement comes from Loi 2005-102, a separate and older regime. Under the transposition of this Directive the exposure is a fifth-class contravention, which is far smaller. The litigation risk is the real one here, not the fine.
Directive (EU) 2019/882
The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025. Article 13(2) requires you to publish specific information about how your service meets the accessibility requirements, put it with your terms, and show that you monitor it. That is the part companies miss, because unlike a contrast failure you cannot see it by looking at the site.
